Last Thursday, Sec. of Defense, Robert Gates and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Robert Mullen held a press confidence to condemn WikiLeaks’ massive dump of classified documents concerning the military operations in Afghanistan and Pakistan. In what was hailed as a shot across the bow of the organization and it’s principal spokesman, Julian Assange, both Gates and Muller claimed the release of these damning documents would place our soldiers and other cooperating parties in direct danger and may have already been responsible for the loss of American and Afghans lives.
WikiLeakes and Julian Assange have submitted their documents to the most stringent vetting before release precisely to avoid the possibility of placing the lives of anyone mentioned in the documents at risk. These statements by Gates and Muller represent yet another obfuscation in a PR campaign characterized by lies and misrepresentations that has passed unaltered from Bush to Obama.
I think it is safe to say that Gates and Mullen are only concerned with punishing the messengers who revealed the truth about our conduct of the war in Afghanistan, the possible war crimes involved in the prosecution of that war, a realistic no BS assessment of the last six years of failure and the thorny revelation that Pakistan’s ISI has been supporting the Taliban in their struggle to repel the invaders.
So last Thursday we had the disgraceful spectacle of the two men with the bloodiest hands calling down the wrath of the righteous on those who were courageous enough to blow the whistle on their crimes. They should have been laughed out of the room. In this upside-down country the chief whistle blower who allegedly released the documents, Private Bradley Manning is currently in the brig awaiting trial while Obama’s goons are actively seeking to "detain and question" Julian Assange.
Obama has already bragged about his right to kill US citizens and other non-combatants without due process. It is hoped Julian is not targeted for termination in this manner. With our devious president nothing is as it appears. No one is calling for further investigation of the substantial crimes reported in the documents or a serious review of the revelations of a war policy off the tracks and headed for disaster. The Democrats in fact just rushed the latest war appropriations bill through Congress—hopefully before the full impact of the WikiLeaks documents could be fully digested by the public. Everything in this land is upside down.
